1. Import from prod or QA to Dev test client, a few employees who have already the existing or old shifts.
Or create in Dev test client similar employees. After assigning the shift plans, change the plan for a couple of employees on a couple of days and save. This should create corresponding infotypes for the employees. Run time eval and payroll. For the next period, do for either these employees or the ones imported into Dev test..
2. Change the shift for a couple of employees to the new shift.
Also enter absences and overtime for a couple of employees on the days with the new and old shifts.
Save and run time eval, payroll and check the results.
The new shift type should not have any impact on other processes or reports.
3. If the results are correct, you can go ahead with step 4.
Else, analyze the issues and correct any config; and go back to step 2.
4. Move the transport/s to QA, ensuring all transports relevant to this change are moved in the correct order. If there are any client-independent transports, these should be moved first before the others like config ones.
5. QA tests:
5.1 Test further in QA similarly as in Dev test.
5.2 Request time/payroll admin or the client to perform UAT, explaining the changes made and the test scenarios they need, to ensure the changes are correct.
Review their test scenarios and add any of your own, explaining the purpose again.
Assist client to perform UAT in any way they need - explain what changes are required in data, which processes to be run (e.g., create/change shift plan, run time eval/payroll, results expected at each stage).
Review results with the client. If OK, you can go to step 6 after UAT sign-off.
Else go back to change any config or other changes made and go back to step 2.
6. Move the transports to prod. Review the changes made in prod.
Request user to make any changes in shift plans or assignment of shift for relevant employees.
Review infotype records created.
Run time eval for relevant employees in simulation mode and check results.
Review production data and results for a couple of pay cycles.
Above should be enough.
Hope this helps.
